Language
The site uses clear, simple language which is easy to understand.
Colours
Our site is usable by anyone with colour deficient vision. We've checked the site's font and background colour to ensure there are no combinations against the different colour blindness conditions and ensured that all information is still clear.
Relative font sizes
The site uses relative font sizes on all text with the exception of graphical text.
Text size
Text size can be increased or decreased in size by selecting the View option in your browser.
Cascading style sheets
The site uses cascading style sheets (CSS) to control page layout and styling.
Images
Images that convey important information have alternative text. Where an image is used for a decorative purpose the empty alt attribute (alt=””) is used.
Portable Document Format files (PDF)
Many of our links point to forms and publications in Adobe Acrobat® Portable Document Format (PDF). You can

PowerPoint files
You can view our online publications that are in Microsoft PowerPoint® (.ppt) format if you have any version of PowerPoint installed on your computer. If you don't have the software, the Microsoft Corporation offers a free PowerPoint file viewer.

Our website does not use pop-up windows.

Forms are clearly labelled to help readers to understand the content on a page and to fill in content into correct fields.

The website’s tables are clearly tagged. They do not use structural mark-up for visual purposes.

Low graphics version
The low graphics version of the site provides a simplified navigation and also image structures to users who are limited to text only or screen reader technologies.

We have provided a series of keyboard shortcuts intended to help users who have difficulty in using pointing devices such as a mouse.
This web site uses the United Kingdom government access key system and the following information summarises each of the keyboard shortcut commands available to you. Due to the structure of this website please note that some UK government access keys have not been implemented.
Windows-based systems
