Mark was appointed as a main Board Director of Airtricity in 2003.  He is currently Director of Communication & Business Development and has responsibility for Public & Regulatory Affairs and Public Relations across all Airtricity operations. His responsibilities also include supporting the development of Airtricity’s Strategy across all new geographical areas including Portugal, Italy and Sweden.  Airtricity is currently being renamed SSE Renewables following its acquisition by Scottish & Southern Energy.  SSE Renewables covers all aspects of renewable generation including wind, hydro, solar and marine. It is the UK and Ireland’s biggest renewable developer and is therefore very conscious of the challenge of climate change.  Mark has a particular interest in climate change and has addressed audiences as far afield as China, Abu Dhabi and various EU countries.

Prior to joining Airtricity Mark was CEO of Boxmore International PLC a manufacturer of packaging products for the Pharmaceutical, Agro-chemical, and Food sectors. Under Mark’s leadership, Boxmore grew to be Europe’s premier supplier of secondary packaging to the pharmaceutical sector through a combination of organic growth and seven acquisitions across Europe. He also set up profitable greenfield plastic packaging operations in China and South Africa. Prior to its acquisition by Chesapeake Corporation in June 2000, Boxmore had 18 manufacturing plants located in Europe, China and South Africa and employed 1600 people.  Following the acquisition, Mark was appointed Senior Vice President of Chesapeake Corporation with responsibility for their global plastics division.  

Mark has been an advisor to a number of businesses and has served as a Non-Executive Director on several boards. He is currently a Non-Executive Director of Invest Northern Ireland and a number of small start-up companies operating in the Energy, Connected Health and Pharmaceutical Sectors.

In addition to his business activities, Mark is currently a council member and past Chairman of CBI Northern Ireland and has recently retired as Chairman of the Management Leadership Network an organisation established in 2002 to encourage leadership development in NI’s small businesses. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Management.

An Economic Honours Graduate of Queens University of Belfast, With an Open University MBA, Queens further honoured him in 2001 with their Graduate of the Year award for services to industry.

Mark actively supports local charities and has served on the fundraising committees of the Marie Curie Cancer Foundation and the Simon Community. He is married with 4 children. He enjoys sailing, golfing and skiing.
