Our activities have made a direct contribution to growing the economy of Northern Ireland.

Performance highlights
The report highlights that over the five-year period:
- Invest NI offered assistance of just over £631 million towards projects which plan to invest over £2.6 billion within the Northern Ireland economy.
- 54 per cent of assistance offered was in support of NI owned businesses.
- Of the 69 new inward investments secured during 2002/03 - 2006/07, 74 per cent planned to locate in disadvantaged areas. These areas represent 30 per cent of the Northern Ireland population.
- Planned investments in the West of Northern Ireland amounted to £2,019 per head of adult population, compared to £1,872 in the East. Overall inward investment per head was some 43 per cent higher in the West than the East.
- £254m of innovation assistance (contributing towards over £655m of planned investment) was offered through a range of programmes supporting the development of new products and processes, and through the exploration of new markets.
- Expenditure on research and development by Invest NI clients increased by 10 per cent from 2002 to reach £137.1m in 2005.
- Exports from the Invest NI client portfolio increased by 21.7 per cent to reach £4.6bn by 2005/06, as a consequence, export sales content (export sales as a per cent of total sales) rose from 41 per cent to 44 per cent.
- Start up assistance was offered to 15,326 locally owned businesses and individuals.
