Invest NI Receives AwardInvest Northern Ireland has received an award from the Department of Trade and Industry in recognition of its contribution to the success of this year’s UK Online e-Commerce Awards. The award was presented to the Invest NI e-business team which helped to promote the awards and supported companies in completing their applications. The Invest NI team’s work contributed to an increase of over 110% in the number of applications to the competition in 2003 compared with the previous year. Receiving the award on behalf of Invest NI, Tracy Meharg, Managing Director for Innovation and Capability Development, said: “Invest NI’s e-Business team is helping Northern Ireland businesses to embrace e-commerce and to use the internet to increase productivity and efficiency. “The high level of applications for the UK e-Commerce awards this year reflects the vibrant and growing e-business environment in Northern Ireland. Our e-business team worked closely with companies to encourage them to take part and to help them complete the complex application form.”The regional e-Commerce awards, held in July this year and sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland, aimed to encourage greater use of e-business by recognising organisations that have demonstrated tangible business benefits through their use of Internet and Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). “Invest NI has also recently invested £5 million to support Northern Ireland companies in accessing broadband so that e-commerce can become a reality for every business,” noted Tracy MehargThe Invest NI e-business team, which includes ICT and Broadband advisors, provides clear, independent and expert advice in areas such as the application of e-business tools; information and advice on bespoke systems; project management of system implementation; internet/e-mail/website design; e-commerce; and supply chain integration.
