Around Noon launches new look to grow sales

Aug 09, 2007

Around Noon Sandwiches, the Newry-based specialist in premium pre-packed sandwiches, rolls and wraps, has developed attractive branding and new products as part of a business growth strategy.

The company, formed in 1990 by husband and wife team Sheila and Francis Chambers, teamed up with Invest NI and Slater Design in Holywood, Co Down to develop a smart new corporate identity and packaging for its existing range of hand filled and hand cut sandwiches and wraps. The packaging now includes dietary information such as GDA – Guideline Daily Amount- for health conscious consumers.

To support the new marketing drive in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, Around Noon is also launching gourmet and healthy products featuring brown breads and low-fat mayonnaise. All products are hand filled and hand cut by staff at the company’s premises in Ashtree Business Park. The new cardboard packaging is also 100 per cent recyclable.

The new identity follows the company’s participation in Invest Northern Ireland’s Design Development Programme. Around Noon has also received advice and support from Invest NI’s Southern Regional Office (SRO) in Newry.

In addition to sandwiches and wraps, Around Noon supplies rolls, salad boxes and other products such as bagels and focaccia breads to forecourt shops, convenience stores and airport shops under the Around Noon brand as well as key customer brands.

Gareth Chambers, Around Noon’s Sales and Marketing Manager, commenting on the new strategy, says: “Our research has indicated that we offer customers a superior product in terms of taste and quality of ingredients, which are mainly sourced locally.

“The new identity and attractive packaging have been developed by us to reinforce this market standing. The gourmet and healthy products that we are developing will also help to establish Around Noon as a quality conscious innovator in what is now a very fast-moving and competitive marketplace.

“Invest NI’s Design Development Programme was fantastic. We are very excited by the new brand identity and packaging that have resulted. In addition, it has helped us to focus our overall business strategy and take the steps we need to raise our profile with our clients and their customers. It reflects our commitment to quality, innovative products and to superior customer-focused services,” he adds.

Mark Bleakney, Manager of Invest NI’s Southern Regional Office, says: “Around Noon has grown steadily over the years and has established a strong market presence in Northern Ireland. It is now winning business in the Republic of Ireland and has identified substantial opportunities there.

“Participation in the Design Development Programme has also encouraged the directors to develop ideas which could help the company to differentiate itself in its target markets in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, as a supplier of highly innovative and quality products that offer the different taste experiences that consumers are seeking increasingly.”
