Belfast-based CEM Systems, part of the US firm Tyco Security Products, is installing a sophisticated security management system in King Khalid University Hospital, Riyahd, Saudi Arabia. The contract follows the company’s participation in a recent Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to the kingdom.

The CEM system will control access to the prestigious dedicated university hospital, which opened in 1982 and provides 800 patient beds, over 20 operating rooms and fully equipped/ staffed laboratories. The university hospital contains a special outpatient building and provides primary and secondary care services for Saudi patients.

The CEM system allows security personnel at the hospital to produce permanent and temporary identity badges for medical staff, intern students, residents and other individuals who may access the building regularly. The hospital can then personalise these badges by including their own logo, background image and badge text fields.

Welcoming the company’s success in Saudi Arabia, Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI Trade Director, said: “CEM has followed up leads and succeeded in converting them into good business for its highly advanced technology.

“This is an impressive company that’s focused on innovation for international markets and is now a successful and highly respected global player. CEM is the most recent in an ever-growing portfolio of Northern Ireland companies, to secure excellent business in Saudi Arabia, a marketplace that offers substantial opportunities for a very broad range of products and expert services provided by Northern Ireland companies.”

Philip Verner, CEM Sales and Marketing Manager, said: “CEM Systems appreciates the support provided by Invest NI trade missions to assist with our growth strategy into new and emerging markets worldwide. The King Khalid University hospital project is a prestigious reference site that has enabled us to grow our business presence throughout Saudi Arabia to a point where we have won more than £1m of business this past year.”

“Our security management system offers the King Khalid Hospital apowerful and fully integrated security management system that is an ideal solution where security is of paramount importance.

“The software offers an unparalleled collection of applications that enhance security and customer operations including the Alarm Event Display, Visual Imaging and Pass Production System.”
