Food Companies Going for Olympic Gold at London Event

Mar 11, 2011

Around 20 local food and drink companies will have an opportunity to pitch for supply contracts in the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games at next week’s International Food Exhibition (IFE) in London.

Local companies exhibiting at IFE 2011, from 13-16 March, will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to present their products to The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games [LOCOG].

LOCOG will bring its sourcing team and a large group of buyers and development chefs to IFE2011 for ‘Meet the Buyer’ sessions. Exhibitors of all sizes will be in with a chance of getting their products onto the 14 million plates of food served to visitors, media, VIPs, and athletes during the 2012 Games. In addition, regional food and drink will be displayed at many of the venues.

Sourcing teams also met several local companies at the BBC Speciality Food Show in London last December and pinpointed potential suppliers.

In addition to 11 companies on an Invest NI stand at IFE, products from a further four local food processors will be showing on their own stands including: Dale Farm, Belfast; Good4U, Cookstown; Silver Hill Foods, Omagh; and Tayto, Tandragee.

Furthermore, products from Pritchitts, Newtownards will be on the Lakeland stand. Moy Park poultry products will be seen in the Marfrig display and Lowe Refrigeration, Carryduff will be showing its display equipment.

Appearing at IFE for the first time, in the Invest NI stand, will be Alfees, a producer of sauces from Newtownards, and Fresh Food Kitchen, Londonderry, a supplier of salads, deli products and mayonnaise. Tyrone’s Fivemiletown Creamery will also be visiting the show, now the leading UK event for food and drink.

Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI Trade Director, said: "The organisers of the Games have made it clear that they wish to showcase regional food and plan to ask the main catering organisations to source as much as possible from across the UK. This presents a marvellous opportunity for NI companies to benefit from this unique sporting event in the UK.

"London 2012 will be the largest peacetime catering operation in the world, so the Meet the Buyer events really will provide a mammoth opportunity for local exhibitors to get involved.”
