Invest NI Chief Executive welcomes G8 announcement

Nov 20, 2012

Invest Northern Ireland Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton has welcomed today’s announcement that the 39th G8 Summit is to be held in Northern Ireland in June 2013.

Commenting the news, Mr Hamilton said: “This is wonderful news for the Lough Erne Resort, for Fermanagh, and for the whole of Northern Ireland.

“To have the leaders of the world’s major economies gathered in Northern Ireland, and the associated global media coverage that it will generate, will provide us with an unprecedented opportunity to showcase Northern Ireland and grasp the attention of potential investors. We will be working extensively between now and then to ensure that we make every use of this ‘once in a lifetime’ event.

“As the Prime Minister said, it will be a brilliant advertisement for Northern Ireland and is one which we will use to show exactly what Northern Ireland has to offer – as a place to invest in, to do business with and to work.

“It was fitting that the Prime Minister chose to make the announcement during a visit to one of our longest established inward investors, NACCO in Craigavon, which, alongside being a major exporter, has invested heavily in R&D to develop its manufacturing operations. It is an excellent illustration of the strength and attractiveness of Northern Ireland as a prime European location for both advanced manufacturing and service based industries,” he concluded.
