Invest NI Helps Innovative Body Builders Boost Sales

Feb 08, 2006

An Invest Northern Ireland initiative has helped Rasharkin-based Drumack Coachworks increase its turnover by £250,000 in just six months.

Assistance from Invest NI’s Innovation Service has delivered remarkable results in only six months for the firm which specialises in two key areas of the UK and Ireland commercial vehicle market – custom body-building and tail-lift installation, maintenance and repair - from its headquarters in Rasharkin and a workshop in Belfast.

A £250,000 increase in turnover has been recorded along with other benefits including more streamlined operations, the development of core values and a new focus on higher value added products and services.

“The Innovation Service has helped us to incorporate innovation in the broader sense and take a more creative approach to all aspects of our business,” says Cyril Reid, Managing Director, Drumack Coachworks. “Increased production levels and enhanced efficiency, combined with new design and costing mechanisms have delivered significant benefits and identified new opportunities for growth.

“With the resulting increase in capability we are now actively targeting new export markets, and will focus on new product development whilst expanding our existing bespoke design service.”

The Invest NI Innovation Service aims to help local companies demystify and build confidence around innovation whilst breaking through conventional barriers to creativity.  By partnering firms with an innovation expert, the service can help identify new business opportunities, assist in differentiating firms from their competitors, seek input from all employees and convert ideas into profit.

According to Tracy Meharg, Managing Director of Innovation and Capability Development, Invest NI, innovation can help local firms stay ahead of the competition in today’s global marketplace:

“It is widely recognised that businesses which increase profitability and revenue, do so by integrating innovation across the business, releasing the creative potential of their people and products. Drumack’s success demonstrates how small changes can bring maximum benefit and that the Innovation Service is helping companies achieve excellence and develop a profitable edge.”

The Innovation Service is available to Invest NI client companies and applications are currently being welcomed. Further information on the service and eligibility can be obtained from or by contacting Simon Quinn on 028 9069 8403.
