Invest Northern Ireland support during 2014/15 has resulted in £21 million of investment by businesses in Ards and North Down Borough Council area, which will help create nearly 400 new jobs.
Commenting on the results, Mark Bleakney, Invest NI’s Southern Regional Manager, said: “To help secure this investment and promote the 397 new jobs Invest NI offered over £3 million of support to businesses in the area, helping them to bring forward their growth plans.
“Job promotion and investment levels in the area both increased on last year, by 35 per cent and 15 per cent respectively, demonstrating a strong year of performance by Invest NI in the region. During the course of the year we supported Willowbrook Fine Foods with its £2.3million investment which will lead to 55 new jobs and secured a £6 million investment by internationally owned Magellan Aerospace which will create 47 new jobs over the next four years.
“Through working in partnership with local firms we have helped support them to expand, look to new markets, invest in skills training for their staff and undertake R&D to remain ahead of the competition. We announced recently that Kircubbin-based Echlinville Distillery had benefited from R&D support to develop premium Irish whiskey for markets outside Northern Ireland. We also supported the company’s investment that will create 15 new jobs over the next two years.
“Also, Bangor-based Modern Efficient Design (MED Ltd) benefited from Invest NI design advice and an Innovation Voucher last year towards the design and manufacture Padvu, a unique device for teachers using iPad tablet computers in the classroom.
“In addition to securing new jobs for the future, Invest NI support has also resulted in 286 new jobs actually created in the region during 2014/15.
“As well as this strong in-year performance, across the four years of this Programme for Government, Invest NI support has helped leverage £77 million of investment in the local economy and supported projects which will create 1,189 new jobs.”
