Jul 17, 2006

Invest Northern Ireland is helping a number of key players within the aerospace industry to attend the 45th Farnborough International Air Show which starts today.

The biggest event in the aerospace calendar this year, the week long show attracts all the major civil and military aerospace organisations from across the world, including Boeing, Airbus, Bombardier, Lockheed Martin and NASA.

Commenting on the event Michael Polson, Head of Aerospace at Invest Northern Ireland said:

“International shows like Farnborough allow local companies to stay ahead of trends within the industry and put their products and services in front of major manufacturers and their main suppliers.

“The event is of vital importance to help local businesses showcase their capabilities and potential

Invest NI’s support of businesses attending the show forms part of their overall strategy of helping local firms target the European and International aerospace sector.  A number of Northern Ireland based companies are exhibiting such as Bombardier, Thales, B/E Aerospace, Survitec, Langford Lodge and John Huddleston Engineering.

Others such as Moyola Precision Engineering, BASE 2000 and Denroy Plastics are visiting the show to meet with key contacts and attend an international buyer’s forum hosted by UK Trade & Investment.

In May Invest NI helped five leading precision engineering firms from across the region exhibit at the Berlin Air Show. Each company was able to make invaluable new business contacts and raise their profile within the industry.

Invest NI has also recently announced its intention to represent the region at AIRTEC 2006, an international supply fair for the aerospace industry. Based in Frankfurt the event will take place from the 17th-20th October and will attract a wide range of suppliers and buyers from across the world.

Employing over 7,000 people and with an estimated turnover of €1 billion Northern Ireland’s aerospace sector has an International reputation for quality and innovation which, with support from Invest NI, is growing year on year.
