Carrickfergus-based MindMill, a specialist in human profiling software used for selection, training and recruitment, has secured an initial project in Qatar from participating in an Invest Northern Ireland trade mission to the Arabian Gulf.

MindMill, an innovator of web-enabled assessment software that organisations can use to assess the suitability of a candidate for a particular employment role, has secured an initial three year contract with Oryx HR, a recruitment specialist based in Doha. The company is part of Oryx Engineering, one of Qatar’s leading businesses involved in the huge natural gas industry there.

MindMill, which employs a team of software developers and psychologists at its office in Carrickfergus, has developed its testing solutions in a range of languages to accommodate Oryx’s focus on recruiting staff from India, the Philippines and Sri Lanka.

The deal followed the Co. Antrim company’s participation on an Invest NI mission to the Gulf centres of Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Oman by Laing Mewhort, MindMill’s Managing Director, in April 2010.

Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI’s Trade Director, welcoming MindMill’s success, said: “This is a significant achievement that positions the business for fast growth throughout the Gulf region. The company has invested time and resources in developing the substantial business opportunities it pinpointed there during the mission.

“The contract will offer Oryx access to MindMill’s technology, expertise and enable them to streamline employment processes internationally.

“The agreement is a further example of how a local company can succeed in this important marketplace by using Invest NI missions and by professionally following through on those contacts made. MindMill secured this initial contract by responding quickly and being flexible in its approach to the requirements of a high profile customer.”

Mr Mewhort, commenting on the new business in Qatar, said: “This is an immensely important breakthrough in one of the Gulf’s major markets and will position us to support Oryx HR as it seeks to expand its business throughout the region.

“We secured the business due to the innovative features of our assessment software, its flexibility, ease of administration and accessibility over the internet. Marketing support from Invest NI was instrumental in helping us secure this first international project.”
