New technology helps meat companies boost sales

Invest Northern Ireland has assisted the development of meatconnected.com, a new and unique online business-to-business networking, trading and information system for the meat industry.

The innovative system has been developed by Roger McCracken, a Londonderry businessman with extensive experience in the meat processing industry. It aims is to provide a range of tools to professionals in the meat industry to help them in their day-to-day activities. Invest NI has provided assistance towards the start up of the business and development of the website.

Support for the new technology development was announced by Des Gartland, Manager of Invest NI’s North West Regional Office in Derry, who said: “This new website development could help meat processing, one of our biggest industries, to grow sales particularly in markets outside Northern Ireland. Our support has enabled the company to bring the innovative technology to market.

“What meatconnected.com offers meat companies is an easy way to meet, connect with and, above all, trade with other businesses in an immensely important industry.

“The opportunity it provides has already won significant support and more than 250 professionals from major meat companies all over the world to have signed up for the new system. They include ABP Food Group, Nippon Meat Packers, Hilton Food Group, Danish Crown, Tesco, Woodhead/Morrisons, Greencore, Dutch Grill Specialities, Dunbia, Foyle Food Group, Goodmeat B.V., Samworth Brothers, Jean Floc’h and many more.”

Mr McCracken, who managed Foyle Food Group’s beef, lamb and pork businesses at different stages, said: “The idea for the system came through my own frustrations at the lack of readily available online resources to help me to do my job better. Invest NI has been extremely supportive in terms of encouragement, technical guidance and practical support to get the business up and running.

“meatconnected.com is a platform for companies to market themselves to the meat industry in a way that has never been possible before. It pulls together a wide variety of information into one easy to access place. By having all this information available at meat professional’s fingertips it will help them make the right decisions on a daily basis.

“The central theme of the system is based around building an online space where meat companies and professionals can market who they are and connect with each other. This section is known as the Community and gives companies the ability to build a profile about who they are, what they have to offer and help them ‘meet’ new trading partners.”
