Northern Ireland Innovation in Food and Drink Vending

Innovative solutions for the vending industry from Northern Ireland food and drink companies will be on show at AVEX 2007. Sixteen companies will be showing a broad range of products at the event in Earls Court, London from 24-26 April.

The companies are taking part on a stand organised by Invest Northern Ireland. It is the first group presence from Northern Ireland at AVEX and is part of a concerted and co-ordinated marketing campaign to increase sales within the vending industry.  It follows the biggest-ever presentation of Northern Ireland food and drink at the International Food Exhibition, also held in London, last month.

The AVEX presence follows an Invest NI organised visit to Northern Ireland for senior executives from companies such as Autobar and The Vending Corporation in January for a programme of meetings and visits to local food and drink suppliers.

AVEX and the associated Cooler Show is now one of the biggest events for the European vending industry. Over 200 exhibitors are taking part and more than 10,000 trade buyers are expected to visit the event.

Taking part in the Northern Ireland stand are companies specialising in products geared to meet health and nutrition requirements.

The products will be shown by the participating companies and in vending machines on the stand. In addition, the Vending Corporation will be including a selection of Northern Ireland products in its vending machines located throughout the exhibition hall.

Maynard Mawhinney, Director of Invest NI’s Food Division, commenting on the Northern Ireland group, says: “Vending is an important sector which our companies are targeting aggressively with a very broad range of new snack and ‘eat-on-the-go’ products. Several products have already attracted the interest of major vending operators particularly those keen to find new ideas for health conscious consumers.

“In addition, we have been facilitating contacts between vending operators and our companies in the development of products that meet their specific requirements. Among the features of our companies are operational flexibility and a commitment to quality, wholesome foods,” he adds.
