Invest Northern Ireland has helped Co. Antrim-based Quad-x to beat the downturn and secure a record a 100% increase in sales, primarily in export markets.

Quad-x is a leading supplier of machineryand equipment for the global all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and quad bike markets. A diverse range of products is developed and manufactured on a farm in Ahoghill, including quad accessories such as sprayers, herbicide applicators, mowers, spreaders and snow ploughs.

These are currently sold to more than 14 countries worldwide and Quad-x is currently the number one selling brand of agricultural accessories in the Republic of Ireland, France & Germany.

R&D support from Invest NI, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund, has helped the firm to engage in new product research to further increase competitiveness by adding to its innovative product range, which has been developed using Quad-x’s family farm environment. Additional targeted support helped Quad-x to strengthen its export marketing activities and make a number of wider capability based improvements.

Gren Armstrong, Manager of Invest NI’s North Eastern Regional Office in Ballymena says: “The global economy continues to present challenges, and while many firms are trying to cut costs, it is important that they balance this activity with making the investment necessary to ensure they are in a position to continue to trade in the short term and to take advantage of any economic recovery.

“Quad-x is a perfect example of how developing innovative and customer focused products to meet the rapidly changing needs of key markets, can deliver impressive results when combined with an export marketing campaign and Invest NI support. Quad-x is now in a highly enviable position in a competitive manufacturing niche, having developed the flexibility to respond to increasing global demand and rapidly changing trends.”

Gillian Bonner, Quad-x Export Manager adds: “we have always looked to new products and markets in order to sustain growth, and as a direct result our efforts in our range of agricultural and equestrian accessories, and subsequent recent investments in key elements of the business we have now we have recorded an unprecedented 100% increase in sales over last years figures.

“Invest NI support, ranging from general advice on business improvements to financial support to assist with our product development activities, really gave us the confidence to take our plans forward, especially as the recession had already significantly impacted on global markets. Our timing could not have been better as we found ourselves fully prepared and ready to take full advantage of business opportunities as they arose – unlike a number of our competitors.

“Previous assistance also helped us to secure a patent onkey products which is now paying dividends by preventing our unique designs from being copied. With an ongoing R&D programme, a targeted export marketing campaign, Invest NI support and a team of highly skilled people, we are extremely confident that we will be able to build upon our successes to date and further strengthen our position in global markets.”
