Belfast based clothing alterations firm The Zip Yard Limited has secured a Master Franchise agreement which is set to triple the company’s turnover following assistance from Invest Northern Ireland.

From its establishment in 2005, The Zip Yard has grown steadily achieving success not only in Northern Ireland but also in the Republic of Ireland by recruiting a Master Franchisee. The Zip Yard has also sold franchise licences to clients in Dublin, Letterkenny, Cork, Limerick, Dún Laoghaire and more recently Nenagh in Co. Tipperary.

Invest NI offered assistance to help the firm exhibit at the Irish Franchise Exhibition in February 2010. Following connections made there with businessman Nigel Toplis, ex-Chairman of the British Franchise Association and author of several franchising publications, The Zip Yard has successfully signed a Master Franchise agreement which will see up to 48 new branches rolled out across England, Wales and Scotland in the next five years.

Nigel Toplis, widely regarded as one of the UK’s pioneers of franchising, will incorporate The Zip Yard franchise model into his portfolio of current successful franchises.

Gren Armstrong, Invest NI’s North Eastern Regional Office Manager, commented: “The Zip Yard’s Master Franchise agreement marks another positive progression for this innovative and entrepreneurial business. Building on its competitive position in RoI, The Zip Yard has secured a lucrative expansion opportunity with tremendous scope for future growth in markets outside Northern Ireland.”

Brian Kielt, Co-Founder and Director of The Zip Yard, commented: “Through Invest NI’s support and assistance we have gained the knowledge and connections to successfully progress in new markets.  Our Master Franchise agreement represents a major milestone in the development of our company and we are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Nigel Toplis in launching our business model across England, Scotland and Wales.”

Nigel Toplis, Master Franchise holder commented: “The Zip Yard is an excellent brand, is well proven and is strongly presented on the High Street and we see a huge market in the UK. Its franchise model is one of the most exciting I have come across in a number of years. I am very much looking forward to working with The Zip Yard team in transferring their successful franchise model across England, Scotland and Wales.”
