Expo 2020 is a large-scale, global event organised and facilitated by governments.

The UAE is hosting the World Expo in 2020 under the theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” from 20 October 2020 to 10 April 2021, in the emirate of Dubai.

The main site of Expo 2020 will be a 438-hectare area (1083 acres) located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, near Dubai’s western border with the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Dubai won the bid in 2013 and expects to receive around 25 Million visitors; 70% of them predicted to come from overseas.

More than 180 countries have agreed to participate in the Expo. Each participating country will have its own pavilion, and a master pavilion for each of the main themes - sustainability, mobility and opportunity, with sub-themes under each.

The UK Pavilion is in the Opportunity District and is being designed by award-winning British artist Es Devlin OBE. Expo offers both commercial opportunity for UK business and the chance for bilateral cooperation.

The UK will be one of 180 nations participating, alongside non-government organisations and sponsors. Based on the global theme ‘Innovating for a shared future’, it will showcase an innovative and creative design to promote the UK’s international agenda and British innovation, creativity and leadership. The UK Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai will be produced by the London and Dubai based global brand experience agency Avantgarde.

Es Devlin OBE is set to design the UK Pavilion, which will be the centrepiece of the UK’s presence at the Expo - highlighting UK expertise in artificial intelligence and the space sector.

Her dramatic design for the UK Pavilion is an illuminated sculptural message to which each of the Expo’s anticipated 25 million visitors will be invited to contribute.
