Invest NI 2012/13 FDI Performance in North West Best in 5 Years

Invest Northern Ireland 2012/13 performance results for the north west show the best year for jobs through inward investment in five years.

The results also show a significant increase in the amount of assistance offered to companies in the area, an 80 per cent increase on the previous year, and a 58 per cent increase in the number of new jobs promoted, by both local and external companies.

Alastair Hamilton, Chief Executive of Invest NI said: “In 2012/13, across Londonderry, Limavady, Coleraine and Strabane council areas, Invest NI made nearly 580 offers totalling £12million of assistance to local and external companies. This resulted in nearly 700 new jobs and contributed towards total investment in the area of £54m.

“Of these new jobs promoted, 315 were as a result of foreign direct investment (FDI) – a significant increase of 139 per cent on last year and our most successful year in 5 years.

“In addition, Invest NI also promoted a further 105 new jobs through business start support.

“I hope these figures will be received with the positive response they deserve by those who have recently been very vocal in their criticism of Invest NI, on both its support for the north west and its ability to attract FDI to the area.

“In addition to the above support, Invest NI has also invested over £5.5m in total to supporting council initiatives in the north west under the Local Economic Development measures, part funded by European Regional Development Fund. This support helps councils develop programmes to specifically address the needs of businesses in their area and boost local economic development.”
