Invest Northern Ireland Secures Further Caterpillar Investment

Caterpillar Inc, the global manufacturing giant that is represented in Northern Ireland by FG Wilson Engineering, has announced that it is to create a second shared services operation here.

The Invest Northern Ireland backed project involves setting up an Information Systems Shared Service Centre for the company’s UK operations.

Announcing the investment Leslie Morrison, Invest NI’s chief executive, said: “The announcement underlines Caterpillar’s commitment to, and confidence in its Northern Ireland operations. Just a few months ago it set up a shared financial services facility in Larne with Invest NI support, and is clearly impressed by the high quality skills base available here.”

The current project, which it is anticipated will create 26 quality jobs, will develop new capability to deliver centralised Information Systems services and support other parts of the Caterpillar organisation in implementing complex new information systems.

“This investment further enhances Northern Ireland‘s reputation as an excellent location for quality support and technology projects. Caterpillar’s decision to strengthen and diversify its operations here shows that it recognizes the opportunity presented by our educated workforce and cost effective operating base. Invest NI is keen to encourage both new inward investors and those already well established here, to take advantage of these factors and expand their range of activities, particularly back office functions.” added Leslie Morrison.

The centre will be situated in the FG Wilson site in Larne and be run as an integral part of the Systems and Processes Division currently based there.

Colm McNicholl of Caterpillar said: “Caterpillar has pursued an aggressive programme of acquisitions in Europe over the last 10 years and as a result has inherited a range of information systems. This new centre will allow us to move towards our goal of standardising information systems functions and services across the company.

“Over the years we have been impressed by the quality of personnel that we have been able to attract to our operations in Northern Ireland. We’re confident that this new centre will be yet another success story and will justify our confidence in the expertise and talent available here.”
