Northern Ireland companies target UK convenience foods
Fifteen companies are taking part on an Invest Northern Ireland stand at one of Europe’s biggest exhibitions for convenience foods. The companies are displaying a wide range of food and beverages at the first ‘Food on the Move’ show at Excel in London on 16-17 October.
The show is geared for new food concepts and products and also includes equipment supplies. Visiting the two-day event are senior buyers from the broadest range of convenience food stores including sandwich and snack bars, cafes, coffee shop chains, delis, bakeries, pizzerias, fast food restaurants, ethnic food takeaways, fish and chip shops, organic food outlets, garages and leisure industry operators such as cinemas and amusement parks.
The event, the first of its type to be held in the UK, also includes a programme of seminars and workshops on various aspects of the convenience foods sector in the UK and other parts of Europe.
Invest NI’s participation in the event is part of an ongoing commitment to help local food companies to identify and exploit developing trends within key sectors that will enable them to either build or expand sales outside Northern Ireland.
Alan Hingston, Invest NI’s Director of Trade, commenting on the presentation, says: “Busy people are increasingly eating on the go. Indeed, the out of home food and drink business in Europe is currently worth over $700 million annually and UK consumers are at the forefront.
In fact, according to a recent Datamonitor survey, more food and drink is currently consumed in transit in the UK than anywhere else in Europe.
“We decided to support the exhibition because it is a unique event that will draw in all the leading players in this important industry and enable them to meet key contacts and also to bring themselves up-to-date with developments in the sector.”
Participation at ‘Food on the Move’ follows a recent Invest NI organised delegation of over 20 food processing companies to the Anuga exhibition in Cologne, Europe’s biggest event for the food processing industry. Invest NI’s Trade and Food divisions have already organised Northern Ireland presentations at other international events including the International Food Exhibition in London, SHOP in Dublin and ScotHot in Glasgow.
