Belfast-based Big Motive has been assisted by Invest Northern Ireland to develop innovative technology to help musicians, labels and magazines connect with audiences and earn revenue from the careful selection of mobile video.
The company is launching ‘Roll’ at SXSW 2014, the world’s leading event for music, film and technology, in Austin, Texas from 7-14 March and attracts key decision makers from the US and other global markets.
Invest NI provided R&D support to the company to develop the technology, part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Alastair Hamilton, Invest NI Chief Executive, said: “This very impressive product brings music video into the mobile age and positions Big Motive at the leading-edge of mobile video - a sector that doubled in size last year and is set to dominate online viewing. The company is now a key player in a developing cluster of ambitious local enterprises specialising in mobile technology.
“Our R&D support enabled Big Motive to develop the technology. The company is now benefiting from our help to bring the product to global markets, especially the US, as quickly as practicable.”
The company has received marketing and trade support to help it promote the new technology internationally, including at events such as SXSW.
Damian Cranney, Big Motive’s founder and Managing Director said: “Roll is a video curation platform that reinvents how fans discover music as well as helping musicians, labels and bloggers connect with audiences. Each Roll has eight videos, packaged with additional content - anything from social feeds and lyrics to tickets and merchandise.
“Invest NI’s support for our new technology has been immensely important in helping us to bring it to market. We wouldn’t have been able to convert an idea into a product, attract music industry partners in the UK and beyond and launch it internationally as quickly and as professionally without Invest NI’s encouragement, advice and practical support,” he added.
Big Motive is a creative technology business which employs nine people at Talbot Street in Belfast. The company has a successful track record in developing apps, games, video and web technologies for mobile, connected TV and beyond, working in the media, fashion, travel and education sectors for clients including BBC, Net-a-Porter, Channel 4 and Nokia.
