Cookstown company Surfaceform moulds its export position

A Cookstown-based decorative finishes company, Surfaceform, has successfully developed a unique interior design product for export markets with support from Invest Northern Ireland.

The Tyrone firm designs and manufactures bespoke polished plaster finishes for projects across the UK and Ireland, from exclusive boutique hotels through to large global brand offices. Its customer base includes architects, interior designers and property developers.

Surfaceform’s new product range is a modular plaster panel which can be linked together to form a seamless decorative wall design. The high-end product can be sold on a repeat basis and will be targeted at potential new customers across mainland Europe.

Invest NI offered over £37,000 to help Surfaceform with the research and development of its new product and with implementing a range of market development activities to help boost its overall competitiveness. Invest NI’s support is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Commenting on the project, Carol Keery, Invest NI’s Director of Innovation, Research and Technology, said: “Surfaceform is a leading-edge, innovative business and its new product range is a valuable addition to the company’s current offering.

“The recent investments in R&D and marketing will help the company to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive interior design sector and demonstrate Surfaceform’s commitment to providing new design concepts for its customers.”

Aaron McKeown, Managing Director of Surfaceform, said: “Invest NI’s support has enabled us to enhance our capabilities and expand the business into a niche area with significant export potential. Our new modular plaster product range forms an important part of our growth strategy and we are delighted with the response from customers to date.

“As part of our overall investment we have appointed a new product designer and established a Design Centre where our clients can view the range of finishes and develop their own ideas with Surfaceform designers.”
