Invest Northern Ireland has secured a £2 million investment by Romtech, the UK’s largest manufacturer of prefabricated steel reinforcement cages for the construction industry.

Romtech plans to establish an all-Ireland operation in Craigavon, creating 49 jobs and enabling the firm to take advantage of growing market opportunities in the Republic of Ireland for prefabricated piling cages, piling cage accessories and geotechnical products.

“Romtech is a highly professional and innovative company, with a focus on best practice and efficiency and we are delighted that the firm has chosen Craigavon as its all-Ireland base,” said Invest NI Chief Executive, Leslie Morrison, announcing the investment.

“Romtech has embraced the approach to quality construction recommended in the Egan report on the future of the construction industry, and the Craigavon facility will complement and enhance the capability of the Northern Ireland construction sector. Having selected Craigavon as the operations base in Ireland for its high quality service and product range, Romtech will be contributing around £1.3 million annually in salaries and wages to the Northern Ireland economy, by 2008.”

Rodney Morrow, Romtech’s Sales and Marketing Manager added: “We believe that our experience and innovative approach to products and processes will help Romtech remain a leader in its field. We’re confident that the new Craigavon operation will help us capture a significant portion of the Irish market for prefabricated piling cages, and will contribute to the ongoing growth of the company.”

“We pride ourselves in offering an “engineering solution” to our customers” said Tony Stumpf, Managing Director, Romtech. “Due to increased demand for our product range throughout Great Britain, coupled with anticipated growth in demand as preparations get underway for the 2012 Olympics, it is probable that the Craigavon facility will also serve as an additional manufacturing site for Romtech products destined for Scotland and North of England.”
