Invest Northern Ireland support during 2014/15 has helped to secure almost £31million of investment by businesses within the Mid & East Antrim Borough Council area and supported the promotion of 327 new jobs, which will be created in the coming years.
Commenting on the results Moira Loughran, Invest NI’s Eastern Regional Manager said: “To help secure this investment and help businesses grow we offered nearly £6million of assistance which shows our commitment to working in partnership with businesses in the area and to encourage them to grow. As well as the new promoted jobs, with Invest NI support 316 jobs were actually created in 2014/15.
“We had many highlights this year and supported investment in the area from companies including Smiths Engineering Works who announced an investment of £468,000 in an expansion at its Ballymena premises and the creation of 12 new positions over the next few years.
“Invest NI has supported £10.6million of investment in R&D in the area this year alone. This includes the announcement of almost £10million of investment in five R&D projects by Wrightbus. Our overall support for R&D has helped to encourage companies to drive forward initiatives that will support a competitive approach, particularly in markets outside Northern Ireland.”
Over the Programme for Government period Invest NI helped to secure almost £157 million by companies in the Mid and East Antrim Borough Council area and 1,149 new jobs have been created.
“These figures are testament to our continuing efforts in this region to support local businesses. Going forward we remain committed to working with businesses to support them with their future plans.
“I would encourage businesses within the area to continue working with us on opportunities to develop their businesses further, identify new opportunities and fully exploit them.”
