Local Businesses Learn from Global Giants

Mar 27, 2007

Over 360 local business people got the opportunity to learn from experts from world-leading Internet companies Google, Microsoft and eBAY at a recent conference organised by Invest NI.

At the ‘How to successfully trade and sell online’ conference the speakers shared the secrets of their company’s success and gave an insight into the wide range of tools and services available to an online trading business.

There were also breakout sessions on search engine marketing, e-mail marketing, e-commerce, website usability and search engine visibility, blogging and podcasts, affiliate marketing, pay per click campaigns and how to set up an eBay shop.

The conference included a question and answer session when participants got an opportunity to ask representatives from Google, Microsoft and eBay about any aspect of e-commerce. Questions included: How would a business sell online without creating conflict with an already established retailer network? What are your views on selling products online where the traditional perception is that they need to be touched, felt or tried on?

Rodney McMullan, an Invest NI ICT Adviser, says; “The conference was a great success. Those attending went away with practical tips about how to make e-commerce work for their business regardless of the size or sector. The speakers at the event are considered experts and influencers in their fields, and not only did they explain the theory but gave detailed real examples of how other companies are successfully using web marketing techniques.

“They outlined simple steps that can be taken to get a business trading online and how to ensure that it is indexed correctly by search engines, which is key to online success.”
