Invest Northern Ireland has announced additional in-market support to help local companies to win more business in the Nordic region of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland.
The appointment of a new in-market support adviser, NITC-Marketlink in Malmo, Sweden, was announced by Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI Trade Director, at the start of the biggest-ever trade mission to the region.
Twenty two Northern Ireland companies are taking part in the week-long mission (3-7 September) which will be centred on Stockholm, Sweden and Copenhagen, the Danish capital.
The companies are being assisted to exploit business opportunities by a marketing professional, Callette Terhaerdt, with a wealth of experience gained working for Swedish and Danish companies as well as other businesses in neighbouring markets.
Dr Kell said: “The provision of this in-market support for our companies in the Nordic region is the latest development of our strategic focus on providing a network of expert advisers to assist in boosting Northern Ireland export sales.
“Our aim is to provide expert support on-the-ground for Northern Ireland companies particularly in markets that are continuing to show significant growth.
“NITC-Marketlink has already begun to work with our companies interested in developing sales in the key Nordic markets of Sweden, Norway and Denmark. In addition, the advisers have experience in other neighbouring markets such as Finland.
“NITC-Marketlink has the experience and knowledge to assist companies with accurate and current market intelligence and to help in other areas such as lead generation, business procedures and logistics.
“The Nordic region is a target market for us because economies there have not been as badly affected as other European regions in the current recession. They are also markets in which customers appreciate quality and innovation, characteristics of Northern Ireland offerings.
‘The size of the current mission shows that Northern Ireland companies, both large and small and across a range of business sectors recognise the business potential of these markets.
“Over the years, Northern Ireland companies have enjoyed considerable success in both Sweden and Denmark.
“This success has encouraged us to focus resources on these markets and to encourage other companies to explore the opportunities there. Our new in-market support will enable us to build on this success and to help newcomers to these markets to develop worthwhile business there.”
