Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Arlene Foster has announced that CVS Caremark Corporation is creating 100 new jobs at its IT development centre in Belfast.

CVS Caremark’s Northern Ireland Development Centre, which opened in 2012, creates software solutions for all parts of the US company, with particular focus on internet and mobile applications.

Announcing the investment, Arlene Foster said: “This expansion solidifies CVS Caremark Northern Ireland as an integral part of CVS Caremark’s global IT services. The Belfast centre has an excellent track record, having quickly established credibility and influence within the wider corporation.

“CVS Caremark decided to create the additional jobs in Belfast because the local management team has been successful in attracting and retaining highly skilled software engineers and QA testers. They have also been impressed by the loyalty of employees and the strong work ethic, as this has contributed to their success, and provided a strong foundation to build on.

“This investment further underlines Northern Ireland’s attractiveness to global companies, which has been demonstrated by a number of significant inward investments in recent months.”

Invest Northern Ireland has offered £725,000 of assistance for the jobs, which will pay significantly above the private sector average and contribute around £3.3million a year in salaries to the economy.

Ronan O’Loan, CVS Caremark’s Senior Vice President Talent & Organizational Effectiveness, said, “At CVS Caremark our purpose is helping people on their path to better health. Attracting, developing and retaining top IT professionals are key differentiators that enable us to create innovative health care solutions which align to that purpose. Northern Ireland is a proven source of great IT talent and we are delighted to offer even more career opportunities at our development centre here in Belfast.”

Headquartered in Rhode Island, CVS Caremark Corporation is number 12 on the Fortune 500 list of top companies and is the largest pharmacy health care provider in the US with more than 200,000 employees, 7,600 pharmacy stores and 800 retail medical clinics.
