Cornerstone Automation Systems (UK) (CAS) is being assisted by Invest Northern Ireland to invest over £100,000 to exploit business opportunities in Europe and further afield for its expertise in automation.
CAS, formed earlier this year by Sean McNicholl, a recognised expert in software systems that assist large and medium sized companies to automate, sort and handle substantial volumes of computer data more cost effectively, has already secured significant business for its expertise.
Invest NI’s backing for the new business was announced by Des Gartland, Manager of Invest NI’s North West Regional Office in Derry at the CAS office in the city, where he was briefed about the company’s strategy.
Invest NI is providing £30,750 to assist the company’s substantial marketing activities and to facilitate the recruitment of two management level employees.
Mr Gartland said: “CAS has pinpointed an important market opportunity arising from Mr McNicholl’s reputation, experience and overall credibility in this important technology area. Our support will enable this enterprising and ambitious company to harness the market potential of its knowledge of software and hardware systems and thereby to grow its business.
“The investment will also help to establish Derry as an important centre in the area of data automation, sorting and handling and reinforce the city’s position as a developing European city for specialist software services.
“The potential client targets for CAS will be organisations with major logistical operations such as package/document delivery services; retail (supermarkets, clothing outlets); and consumer suppliers (pharmacies, food manufacturers).
“There is clearly a very extensive market opportunity for the business which will also benefit from Mr McNicholl’s knowledge and overall leadership.
“Our backing for CAS is a further demonstration of our focus on assisting and encouraging entrepreneurial businesses with innovative technologies with extensive export potential and are also committed to invest in R&D to help maintain market leadership.
Mr McNicholl said: “Our strategy is based on developing business relationships and contacts that I have cultivated in key international markets for what is basically a systems integration service. The service covers both hardware and software technology that will be better and more cost-effective than the technology solutions currently available in the international marketplace. Another key aspect of our sales proposition will be excellent services and technical support for customers.
“In addition, we’ve linked up with a US leader in this important technology, CASI of Texas, to offer their expertise in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
“We are able to offer a very broad spectrum of existing and potential clients a full turnkey solution including business-to-business, business-to-dealer and business-to-consumer technology that will enhance the process of receiving, packaging and shipping orders for goods.
“We will work with clients from project inception, to the system design and implementation of solution. The company will also offer full maintenance and consultancy to clients.
“Invest NI’s support and encouragement has been invaluable and has enabled us to bring forward our plans, especially our marketing activities, faster than would otherwise have been possible. In addition, Invest NI has helped us to identify support for our planned R&D work.”
