Invest Northern Ireland today announced that Intelliden Inc, a leading provider of automated networking solutions, is investing £3.2m in a new Belfast-based R&D operations centre.

The Invest Northern Ireland backed investment was announced by Leslie Morrison, Chief Executive, Invest Northern Ireland, with Alan Black, Intelliden’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

The new R&D centre is being driven by Intelliden’s rapid growth, particularly in the European telecommunications market.  It will employ 35 people, mostly experienced software engineers, over the next three years and will provide a strong foothold for supporting Intelliden’s major customers across Europe.

The Belfast-based staff will work alongside the US company’s main development centre in Colorado Springs.  The R&D centre is expected to generate more than £1 million annually to the local economy.

Intelliden’s software helps to automate large, complex networks and their associated devices, such as those run by communications service providers, large corporations and governments around the world.  Intelliden’s software enables customers to accelerate the launch of Internet Protocol (IP) services while increasing operational efficiency, improving security and reducing costs.

Leslie Morrison said: “This is an innovation-led company which is the global market leader in a sector with immense growth potential.

“The investment meets Invest NI’s strategic objective of promoting innovation that will deliver quality and knowledge-based employment,” he added.

Mr Black said: “Northern Ireland provides us with the critical elements to support Intelliden’s ongoing growth and commercial momentum. The region has a highly skilled technical workforce, which makes it an ideal fit for our research and development centre. And from a geographic perspective, Northern Ireland provides us with an ideal base for serving our European customers.

“Furthermore, Invest NI’s strategic initiatives are driving world-class innovation, making Northern Ireland an exceptional place for us to do business. We’re looking forward to a mutually beneficial partnership.”
