Invest Northern Ireland showcased a number of the region’s top young tech firms at this year’s Web Summit, one of the world’s most influential international tech events.
Northern Ireland has the second fastest growing knowledge economy in the UK. With a vibrant tech sector, Northern Ireland’s indigenous companies and international investors are developing innovative products and services. The region’s research centres of excellence and technology incubators nurture clusters including telecoms, cybersecurity, data analytics, mobile and cloud computing. Northern Ireland’s two universities are not only providing skilled graduates, but are commercialising academic research output. They have fostered scores of successful spinout technology companies and assisted businesses to secure venture capital investments.
Testament to the strength of the start-up scene in Northern Ireland is the acquisition of local tech companies by blue-chip firms including Intel & HP. US-based ShopKeep and Rapid7 as well as UK firm Chelsea Apps Factory are among the companies that have located operations here, discovering the region offers them a compelling package of talent, cost, location and government support to help them develop their businesses.
