Anaconda in export breakthrough in Colombia
Invest Northern Ireland Chief Executive Alastair Hamilton has announced that Anaconda Equipment International in Cookstown has won significant business in Colombia for its innovative machinery.
Mr Hamilton, speaking at the start of the first-ever Invest NI trade mission to Chile and Colombia, said Anaconda International has secured a contract to supply its mobile conveying equipment to a new client in Bogota for use in mining operations outside the nation’s capital city.
Eleven Northern Ireland companies are taking part in the mission, which will be based in Lima and Bogota from 26-30 November.
Mr Hamilton, commenting on the latest business won by Anaconda International, said: “This is an immensely encouraging development by this export-driven company which is using our trade development services very effectively to become a global player in materials handling.
“Anaconda International has been quick to spot the business potential developing in markets throughout Latin and South America, winning won contracts in Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Panama. Its commitment to faster growth through sales, especially outside the
United Kingdom and Ireland, and the development of highly innovative machinery that’s easily transported to markets worldwide is delivering great results.
“Columbia is among a group of rapidly developing markets in South America. The area offers extensive business opportunities for local companies especially in industries such as construction, materials handling, engineering, life sciences and ICT. This trade mission will be an excellent opportunity for businesses to explore the opportunities available and hopefully achieve the same success as Anaconda.”
Columbia has a stable economy that has been consistently achieving GDP growth of around six per cent aided by strong oil revenues.
Con Gallagher, Anaconda Equipment International’s Sales Director, commenting on the new business, said: “Columbia is proving to be an important market for us because of the Government’s commitment to upgrade its infrastructure to drive growth throughout the country.
“We’d been researching several markets in Latin America and other parts of the world and saw significant opportunities in Columbia. Invest NI has been very supportive and has provided a range of advice and practical support for our marketing and business development activities, including trade missions to our target markets.
“As one of Latin America’s largest oil producers, Columbia has the resources to invest in infrastructure. This offers good business opportunities for our equipment which can be shipped easily because of its unique design that enables the machinery to fit into a conventional container.
“Our success in Columbia and other international markets is the outcome of careful research into potential business partners prepared to devote the time and other essential resources to the marketing of our equipment and our business interests,” he added.
Established in 2005, Anaconda Equipment International, located near Ardboe, employs around 40 people in the design, manufacture and distribution worldwide of a range of mobile screening for the mining, quarry and recycling industries.
Its equipment can be found working in New Zealand, Australia, India, Africa, Middle East, Europe and North and South America including Bolivia and Panama.
