About City & Growth Deals
Over the next decade, Northern Ireland will benefit from over £1.3 billion in public investment through four City and Growth Deals and the Complementary Fund.
These projects will cover every council area across Northern Ireland and are designed to boost local economies and attract further private sector investment.
What is a City and Growth Deal?
A City and Growth Deal is a partnership between the UK Government, NI Executive and Local Councils. Each Deal sets out a series of capital-funded projects that will collectively aim to drive long-term, inclusive economic growth across Northern Ireland.
The Four City & Growth Deals
Northern Ireland’s four City & Growth Deals are:
- Belfast Region City Deal (BRCD)
- Derry City & Strabane Region City Deal (DCSCD)
- Mid-South West Growth Deal (MSW)
- Causeway Coast & Glens Growth Deal (CC&G)
Each Deal has a series of capital investments built on the underlying capabilities and ambition of its region. Collectively, they aim to:
- Boost productivity
- Create high quality jobs
- Enhance competitiveness
- Deliver inclusive and sustainable growth
Areas of focus
The Deals support investment in key sectors where Northern Ireland has recognised strength and potential for growth, including:
- Advanced Manufacturing & Engineering
- Life & Health Sciences
- Creative Industries
- Technology & Professional Services
- Green Economy
- Agri-Tech
They will create Centres of Excellence, encourage innovation and provide opportunities for businesses, located both in and outside Northern Ireland, to collaborate and tap into the world-leading expertise of our universities and other innovation centres, to create breakthrough technologies, products and services. There will also be investment in the infrastructure and testing environments needed to develop and trial next-generation technologies.

Invest NI's role
Acceleration of the delivery of City and Growth Deals is a key priority for the NI Executive and the Department for the Economy (DfE) as well as a strategic priority for Invest NI in maximising City & Growth Deals impacts.
In Northern Ireland, the Deals are led by local Councils who have set the strategic vision for each region. Invest NI, on behalf of DfE, works alongside Councils and other partners to:
- Support project development
- Ensure projects align with industry needs
- Help maximise long-term impact
