Appointment of Executive Director, International Business


Invest Northern Ireland has confirmed that Barry McBride has been appointed to the position of Executive Director, International Business.

Barry officially joined Invest NI on 30 April 2012, following a long career in international business, most recently with the $1.7 billion US Global organisation Teleflex, where he held a range of roles including Division President and Chief Technology Officer. Having spent several years based outside Northern Ireland he has now returned here and looks forward to enjoying life in Northern Ireland. Barry’s earlier career includes working in automotive, aerospace, marine and medical technologies.

Welcoming the appointment, Alastair Hamilton, Chief Executive of Invest NI said: “Continuing to win high quality inward investment and support our local businesses to grow their exports are key drivers of sustained growth. Having recently brought together our trade and international investment activities, we sought to bring in someone with a solid career in an international arena, who has not only built strong business relationships across the globe, but ultimately has won sales for his organisation.

“I am delighted to welcome Barry to the team. He brings a strong international business background with a proven track record in developing and delivering strategies and leading global sales teams in the achievement of demanding sales targets, spanning both East and West global geographies.

“Barry’s appointment completes the recruitment to Invest Northern Ireland’s Executive Leadership Team as part of our major organisational change. He will build on the strong track record of winning high quality inward investment which we have developed under Jeremy Fitch’s leadership in the international business arena. Jeremy has agreed to take on the important role of leading the new Business & Sector Development Group. This account managed group will focus on the development and growth of those existing indigenous and internationally owned Northern Ireland based business that are expected to have the most impact on the Northern Ireland economy. The Group will also focus on the development of key export sectors within the Northern Ireland economy.”
