Ballymena engineering firm boosts competitiveness in export markets with Invest NI support
Ballymena-based Warwick Engineering (NI) Ltd, which specialises in structural and architectural fabrications, has enhanced its ability to compete for export business following support from Invest Northern Ireland.
Given the downturn in the local construction sector, Warwick has invested considerable time and effort in recent years in growing its customer base outside Northern Ireland. It recently achieved European accreditation for its structural steel products in advance of CE Marking becoming a legislative requirement in the UK and Europe construction markets by 2013.
This EN 1090-1 certification will enable the firm to compete more effectively for supply chain opportuntities across Great Britain, the Republic of Ireland and mainland Europe. The company has already secured new business with the Patton Group for a multi million pound project in Germany as a result.
Over the past four years, Warwick has benefitted from a range of Invest NI support, including assistance with achieving this accreditation and also with the development and implementation of its export sales and marketing strategy.
Gren Armstrong, Manager of Invest NI’s North Eastern Regional Office, said: “Warwick Engineering is an ambitious firm which is focused on improving its processes and procedures in order to maximise its growth potential. By enhancing its sales capabilities and ensuring that its products meet legislative requirements in the UK and Europe, Warwick can increase its overall competitiveness and boost its export presence.”
Cecil Warwick, Warwick Engineering’s Managing Director, said: "This EN 1090-1 certification for our steel systems will be our passport to securing export sales and we are delighted with the benefits we have experienced to date as a result of achieving this accreditation.
“Invest NI’s ongoing advice and support has been enormously helpful in progressing our development plans. Looking ahead we aim to further build on our capabilities and ensure we can CE Mark our entire product range in order to take full advantage of future business opportunities across the UK and Europe.”
