Invest Northern Ireland recently held the last in a series of seminars, aimed at helping local companies from across the region address compliance and safety issues and increase the marketability of their products at Invest NI’s Lisburn office.
Called the ‘CE Marking Programme’, the Invest NI backed scheme comprises of technical seminars and individual consultancy days at the client company’s premises. The programme focuses on risk assessment of a product, technical information, the creation of instruction manuals, product testing, declarations of conformity and finally CE marking.
Speaking at the final seminar of this years programme, Ian Wilkinson, Technical Executive with Invest NI commented:
“The benefits of the CE Marking process cannot be underestimated both in terms of protection against potential litigation and an increase of the products overall marketability. The successful completion of this programme will not only help to ensure that a company’s products are safe and reliable but can also increase their competitiveness.”
“For any company taking part in the CE Marking Programme there is evidence to suggest that insurers are influenced by such a transparent and responsible commitment to safety and this can be reflected in a reduced cost in insurance premiums,” he continued.
In this eighth programme Invest NI has assisted more than 20 companies from across Northern Ireland (and over 150 companies since the programme first started) with the CE marking process and intends to run the seminars again in 2005. The programme itself is managed by the Institute of Lifelong Learning at Queen’s University Belfast in association with the Northern Ireland Technology Centre.
