Coleraine technology firm aims to boost tourism

JSR Technology Ltd (JSR), based in Coleraine, is being assisted by Invest Northern Ireland to develop new software packages for the tourist industries in the United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland and other parts of Europe.

The new software products were announced by Jason Rosborough, a graduate from Queen’s University, Belfast, who founded the company in 2005. This was welcomed by Mary Gormley, Manager of Invest NI’s North West Regional Office in Londonderry.

Invest NI has offered R&D support to aid the commercialisation of new business ideas, as well as with marketing for market launch. Invest NI is also providing marketing assistance through the Growth Accelerator Programme.

Mr Rosborough, commenting on the business, said: “While I started the company as a service provider to small and medium sized firms of computer networks, telephone systems, security systems, and audio visual systems, it was always my intention to develop my own software applications for tourism in particular.”

“I identified an opportunity for products that enabled camping and caravan park operators to automate their activities, especially in areas such as booking and site management. Operational versions of both products are now ready for market launch and future enhancement. New products are in the product development pipeline,” he added.

Mrs Gormley said: “JSR has realised that growth in the IT industry depends on developing products that offer customers an opportunity to improve their business performance. The new products offer significant export potential in a niche marketplace that is experiencing substantial growth. We have assisted the company in developing the products and in bringing them to market.”, one of the new products, is a booking and administrative system for caravan/camping parks aimed mainly at easing the daily stress currently experienced by park managers and staff. Other software solutions currently on the market are CD based and require installation and training. is hosted entirely online and is accessible from any internet connection worldwide.  A new park can be set up in 15 minutes and customised to the owner’s requirements with minimal or no assistance or training required. As is online it has been designed to be multi-user and multi-park, allowing a single user to manage multiple parks from any internet enabled PC.

Innovative features include gate and barrier control, interactive park mapping, Sage integration, drag and drop of bookings, auto mail-shot functions and tag printing.  

The system will be translated into French, German, Dutch, Spanish, Italian and Polish.

Mr Rosborough said the internet based products have a number of competitive advantages that differentiate them from other offerings presently on the market:  

“The products are internet based, customers can set-up and configure the system themselves, the software is both multi-user and multi-park accessible and also offers single user management for multiple sites.

“My business plan also envisages a campaign to achieve sales in central European caravan parks,” he added.
