Convergys 10 Year Celebrations

Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry and Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell today attended an event to mark Convergys 10 year anniversary operating in Belfast.

Convergys opened its first contact centre in 2005 and now employs over 2,100 people in Northern Ireland, across 3 sites, providing a range of sales, customer retention and care services into the UK, Ireland and the US for telecoms, financial services, utilities and media brands.

Addressing staff at Convergys’ offices in Airport Road West in Belfast, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: “I am pleased to join in with Convergys’ 10 year celebrations and to see their continued success. I was here in October 2013 when this building opened and my Department continues to work with Convergys supporting their commitment to grow their workforce, their business and, in turn, the Northern Ireland economy.

“My Department, through Assured Skills, worked with management to develop the training for new staff members. The training has provided an opportunity for the staff to develop transferable skills that will stand them in good stead to progress their future careers.”

Congratulating Convergys on the contribution they have made to the local economy, Enterprise, Trade & Investment Minister, Jonathan Bell, said: “It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Convergys on their achievements over the past 10 years. The company opened its first contact centre in Northern Ireland in 2005, with just 35 people, and with the support of Invest NI they now employ over 2,200 people contributing an estimated £30m annually to the local economy.

“One of the key reasons for Northern Ireland’s success in attracting companies is that we have a population that is young, educated and ready to work. The jobs that have been created by Convergys offer flexible meaningful employment in a range of positions and the opportunity to develop important, transferable skills. I would like to congratulate Convergys on such a momentous occasion and for its 10-year commitment to Northern Ireland, and to wish it many more years of success.”

The celebration event also included presentation of long service awards to employees who have been with the company since it opened its first contact centre in Belfast.

Cormac Twomey, Senior Vice President for Convergys said: “Convergys is proud to have been part of the Belfast community since 2005. The Belfast team has worked hard to establish its strong reputation, which is testament to the positive outcomes it delivers for our clients and their customers each and every day. This speaks volumes about the talented people of Belfast, many of whom have gone on to progress their careers in other parts of Convergys.”

Having completed its acquisition of Stream in January 2014, Convergys has created a world-class customer management firm. The company acquired LBM Direct Marketing in February 2013. The US-based business process outsourcing (BPO) company established a contact centre at Airport Road West as part of its growth plans in October 2013.
