Cookstown's FSL scores on Canada mission
Cookstown-based FSL Electronics has won its first business in Canada from an Invest Northern Ireland trade mission. The company is to supply an electronic scoreboard to the prestigious Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club.
The company, which specialises in the design and manufacture of infrared remote control devices for quarrying machinery, also used the mission to strengthen its existing business in the US. It has supplied remote controls to a new distributor in Richmond, Virginia.
Paul O’Hara, FSL’s Sales Manager, said: “The mission gave me a chance to follow up an approach we received some time ago from the club in Toronto, home of Canadian cricket, and to work out a deal for one of our scoreboards. This gives us an important reference site in Toronto for our leading-edge technology.
“Apart from the cricket club, there was considerable interest in our scoreboards from other sports clubs in Canada and I’ll be taking advantage of the Invest NI support to make a return visit to this market over the next few months.
“The deal establishes us in another important market and consolidates our position as the leading company in thedesign and manufacture of electronic scoreboards for theentire sports industry.
“As a consequence of this, our electronic scoreboards are now used by around 1,000 clubs and sports grounds throughout the UK and Ireland. With the ongoing development of sports facilities, the installation of an electronic scoreboard has become a natural progression often adding the final touch to the development of a ground,” he added.
Dr Vicky Kell, Invest NI’s Trade Director, welcoming the Tyrone company’s success in Canada, said: “FSL has used a number of our missions including North America and the Middle East to explore new market opportunities and has grown its export business steadily over the years.
“As part of our support for companies taking part in mission, and to help them follow up leads as quickly as possible, we offer financial assistance to them to return to the same market on their own within six months. This facility is open to Invest NI client companies and those which are not within our client portfolio. They are also able to avail of the practical support we offer in terms of market information about potential customers that can be of help in clinching the deal,” Dr Kell added.
