DERRY FIRM'S FOCUS ON BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT REWARDED
Precision Industrial Services Group, the industrial cleaning and services company based at Campsie Industrial Estate, Eglinton, has experienced a 16 per cent rise in turnover through a focus on business excellence with help from Invest Northern Ireland.
The group’s achievements, which include gaining ISO and Investors in People accreditation, has also resulted in a major Irish Business award - the Ulster Bank/Irish Independent Business Achievers Awards in June 2003.
Congratulating the company on its achievements, Victor Jordan, Director of Invest NI’s Business Improvement Services, said: “To ensure service excellence to customers, Precision is investing continuously in the development of the overall capability of its business.
“As a result of this commitment, the group has strengthened its competitive edge in its target markets,” he added.
John McFadden, Precision’s Managing Director, said strong support from Invest NI’s Business Improvement Services had helped the company to develop its capability and to achieve successes that included major public service contracts, such as a £250,000 project from the Department of Environment’s Western Division and from the Millennium Theatre in Derry.
The company, he said, used the knowledge and experience from ISO and IIP accreditations “to improve dramatically core processes, such as safety and customer services, in providing facility and industrial cleansing services”.
“At the core of our success is a recognition that the quality of service that Precision delivers depends on the people working for the company. Employees are recognised as one of the company’s key strengths.
“Precision is committed to enabling staff to provide services that are safe, reliable and customer-focused by ensuring a wide range of training and development opportunities. The rigorous assessment procedures, carried out by external assessors, confirmed that the company is operating to the highest standards of national good practice. It also enabled us to consolidate our continuous improvement process.”
The company’s achievements include a new and environmentally-friendly graffiti removal method. It has also attained British Oil Spill Control Association accreditation.
Precision employs around 300 people and has over 80 of its direct line operatives now NVQ Accredited, a significant achievement as, for many of the staff, this is their first formal qualification.
The focus on business improvement has also contributed to a 35 per cent reduction in customer complaints.
