Dodds announces 800 new jobs for Northern Ireland

Economy Minister Nigel Dodds today announced Firstsource Solutions’ expansion plans, which will create more than 800 new jobs in Northern Ireland.

Firstsource Solutions is an India-headquartered global business process outsourcing (BPO) company. It already operates two centres in Belfast and Londonderry, employing over 900 people.

The announcement follows the Minister’s recent Invest NI business mission to India, where he met the company to help secure the project.

Through this latest investment which has been offered £6.7million of support from Invest NI, Firstsource Solutions plans to expand its Londonderry operation by creating over 300 jobs, in addition to the existing 530 people already employed there.

The company also plans to set up a third European Centre of Excellence in Northern Ireland to create up to a further 500 new jobs. Firstsource Solutions is currently considering a number of potential locations for this third site.

Announcing the investment the Minister said: “When I met with senior management during my recent trip to India, they highlighted how impressed they were with the calibre of people already employed by Firstsource in Northern Ireland. This significant reinvestment by Firstsource Solutions clearly reflects the company’s confidence in the region.

“The local economy will not only benefit from an additional £10million in salaries annually, but also from the company’s commitment to training and the introduction of best practice skills in the area of customer service. These career opportunities in the financial services and telecoms sectors offer local people the chance to gain valuable, transferable skills.”

The investment further enhances the strong links between Northern Ireland and India which has led to a string of inward investments from large Indian companies such as HCL, Polaris and Tech Mahindra. To further cultivate these links, Invest NI has recently opened an office in Mumbai.

Matthew Vallance, President, Firstsource Solutions said: “Our Belfast and Derry centres provide high-end business processing services that have achieved very high levels of customer satisfaction. This planned expansion will build upon that success and also create another European Centre of Excellence that will help to advance Firstsource Solutions’ global reach.”

Firstsource has 34 centres worldwide and employs over 17,000 employees across five countries in four continents. It specialises in providing BPO services including contact centre, back-office processing and debt collection services to global clients.
