Down manufacturer successfully expands into GB with support from Invest NI
Specialist agricultural unit manufacturer, James Killen Ltd has secured new business in GB with support from Invest Northern Ireland.
The success of the Kircubbin based firm, which designs, manufactures and installs pig and poultry units, follows a significant investment to expand into GB and develop their sales and marketing capabilities.
The new business has been secured by James Killen in Aberdeenshire where the firm has provided Scotland’s second largest egg packer, Farmlay Eggs, with a new 15,000ft wooden chicken shed to support increased production activity.
Invest NI offered support towards the company’s development plans, which involved the appointment of a dedicated GB Sales Manager and an extensive programme of marketing activity. The marketing programme included the development of a new brand identity, brochure and website. In addition the firm implemented a direct mail campaign, market development visits and attendance events such the Stoneleigh Pig and Poultry Show to showcase their products.
Kevin McCann, Invest NI’s Director of Transport, Construction and Tourism, commented: “This is a significant investment by a highly skilled and specialist firm. With the downturn affecting sales, the company recognised the need to enhance its capabilities.
“Focused on driving sales in this new market, James Killen Ltd set a target to grow sales by £1million over the next two years and with significant orders secured across Scotland, England and Wales, the firm is progressing well towards this objective.”
Damien Devlin, Managing Director of James Killen Ltd, commented: “The support and assistance received from Invest NI have been invaluable in helping us to maximise new business opportunities.
“By implementing a new brand identity, marketing materials and a new sales manager to drive activity, we aim to reach our target to increase sales in markets outside Northern Ireland by £1million.”
