Foster congratulates Londonderry firm on continued export growth
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has congratulated Londonderry firm Hunter Apparel on its continued growth in export markets as it celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Hunter Apparel designs and distributes a wide range of high specification technical and corporate clothing, including Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) used by fire fighters and uniforms for airlines, hospital staff and the hospitality sector.
Visiting the company’s premises in Springtown Industrial Estate, the Minister said: “In celebrating its 75th year, Hunter Apparel’s continued growth in export markets is testament to the resilience and forward thinking of its management team. A third generation family run firm, it has effectively managed its way through the well documented challenges faced by the textiles industry over the past 10-15 years by remodelling key areas of the business and embracing innovation to maintain competitiveness.
“With international customers now based across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, this is a truly global company. I hope many other firms are encouraged to follow Hunter’s example and embrace change and innovation in order to grow and succeed.”
Simon Hunter of Hunter Apparel added: “Over the past 75 years we have constantly evaluated our operations in order to manage market challenges, anticipate customer trends and meet demand. Invest NI support has helped us in a number of areas, particularly in developing our export capability which will continue to give us an edge in key markets.
“Hunter’s is now the main supplier of uniforms to the UK Fire and Rescue service as well as the NI and Republic of Ireland Ambulance Services. We have also recently secured a number of prestigious export contracts. These include an exclusive deal to distribute Europe’s most advanced fire fighting protective clothing across Ireland and a major contract with a global airline based in the Middle East. We hope that over the next 75 years we can further grow our export capability and strengthen the Hunter Apparel brand in existing and new markets.”
