Foster follows up on US-NI investment conference in USA
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster met with prospective investors in Boston and San Francisco as a follow up to the US-NI Investment conference.
As part of a seven day Trade and Investment Mission to the USA the Minister met business representatives in Boston and San Francisco to discuss investment options in Northern Ireland.
The Minister said: “Over 150 business leaders and potential investors attended the US-NI Investment conference earlier this year. I am determined to do everything I can to ensure those contacts are followed up.
“After the conference Invest Northern Ireland contacted all attendees and to date, there have been over 40 expressions of interest in discussing what Northern Ireland can offer investors.
“I am confident, in the medium to longer term, Northern Ireland will benefit from the opportunity that the US-NI Investment Conference afforded to present the Northern Ireland business proposition.”
The Minister recognised the challenges of promoting Northern Ireland in the economic slowdown and said: “The current economic downturn means some businesses are deferring investment decisions but the project cycle of inward investment can take 18-24 months to complete and Invest NI will continue to maintain a strong sales presence in its target markets and promote Northern Ireland as a cost competitive location.”
The Minister also met delegates of the Connected Health Symposium in Boston to promote Northern Ireland as a prime location for life science businesses. Arlene Foster then travelled to San Francisco to carry out follow up meetings with prospective investors and to join up with the 15 companies on the Invest NI Trade Mission.
