Foster opens new £1 million business facility in Lisburn
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster has officially opened a new £1million building in Lisburn to help the establishment and growth of small businesses.
The new development, which could potentially create 15 new jobs, includes a head office, workspaces and conference facilities. It is located at Lisburn Enterprise Organisation (LEO) at Enterprise Crescent on Ballinderry Road. LEO is an agency that works to encourage small business development throughout the city.
Speaking as she opened the new facility, Arlene Foster said: “This workspace development has the potential to make an important contribution to the overall economic well-being of Lisburn. By providing facilities and services to help small business grow, it can encourage entrepreneurship, create local employment opportunities and support the sustainable development of the area.
“The Lisburn Enterprise Organisation has worked over the past 20 years to cultivate entrepreneurship and help establish new businesses. It has provided start-up business training for almost 3,000 people and been involved in the creation of 1,500 new business, leading to 4,200 new jobs.
“By supporting local enterprises, bodies such as Lisburn Enterprise Organisation provide employment and training opportunities for local people, help increase business productivity and contribute towards the strengthening of the private sector economy in Northern Ireland. The programmes offered here include Invest Northern Ireland’s new ‘Go for it’ and ‘Growth’ programmes, as well as master-classes, trade initiatives and advice seminars.”
Mr Desmond Magill, Chairman of Lisburn Enterprise Organisation, said: “This new development is 100% funded by the Lisburn Enterprise Organisation, and that is evidence of the sustainable business model that we operate. Almost 500 people are employed in nearly 100 businesses across a number of sectors on our premises, demonstrating the significant contribution that our organisation makes to the local economy.
“We have over 80,000 square feet of workspace, which is at near-full capacity now, and this extended facility opened today will help us to meet further demand for workspace and conferencing facilities. This development will also enable us to build on the extensive range of services that we already offer.”
