Foster opens new £3.5 million logistics and product training facility
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster officially opened a new £3.5million logistics and product training facility at Glen Dimplex NI Limited in Craigavon today.
Glen Dimplex NI is part of the Glen Dimplex Group, which specialises in the manufacture and distribution of a range of renewable energy products and electrical appliances for cooking and heating.
Speaking at the opening of the new facility, at Invest Northern Ireland’s Charlestown Industrial Estate, the Minister said: “This significant investment by Glen Dimplex, is testimony to the company’s commitment to and belief in Northern Ireland as a region in which to grow its business.
“The new product training facility will allow the Glen Dimplex Group to showcase its expertise in the design and manufacture of a range of sustainable energy technologies to existing and potential worldwide distribution customers.
“The new warehousing and logistics resource also provided through this initiative, will increase the efficiency of the Glen Dimplex Group’s operations. This will help to improve the company’s competitiveness in global export markets and strengthen Northern Ireland’s prominence in the environmental business sector.”
Arlene Foster believes that while companies must focus on keeping their businesses operational in the short-term, it is very important that they also keep the medium-to-longer term priorities in mind.
She said: “The Glen Dimplex Group is looking to the future and seeking to prepare for the economic recovery, when it comes, by investing in these facilities and enhancing its capability and growth potential.
“While many businesses focus solely on cutting costs and increasing efficiencies during the current downturn, it is equally important that firms complement these measures and implement value added initiatives to increase long term competitiveness.”
The new logistics and product training facility at Craigavon will support the activities of the Republic of Ireland-based Group’s other local subsidiaries, Glen Electric Limited in Newry and Seagoe Technologies Limited in Portadown. Together, the Glen Dimplex Group of companies employs around 500 people in Northern Ireland.
Dr Martin Naughton, Executive Chairman of the Glen Dimplex Group, said: “The Glen Dimplex Group has its roots in Northern Ireland. Our founding business at Glen Electric was launched in Newry in 1973. Since that time we have maintained a strong presence in the local economy providing quality manufacturing jobs across a range of sectors.
“As well as investing in brands and products, we recognise the importance of customer service. This new facility is testimony to our willingness to invest in the stock, facilities and people required to bring the best possible service to our customers.
“Despite the very tough economic conditions that we are all too aware of, Glen Dimplex Northern Ireland has achieved substantial growth in sales over the past year. With these new facilities and a first class team of people, I look forward to seeing our business here going from strength to strength.”
