Foster reinforces Northern Ireland as investment opportunity
Enterprise Minister Arlene Foster reinforced Northern Ireland as a strong proposition to potential investors, in London, today.
The Minister attended the Global Investment Conference, a gathering of some 240 Chief Executive level business representatives from the UK and overseas. The Conference, which was opened by Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, addressed the current and future challenges to global investment and sought to promote the investment opportunities across the UK. The Minister also undertook a number of meetings and engagements, in London, to reinforce Northern Ireland’s investment potential.
Speaking after the conference, Arlene Foster said: “At a time when the global competition for mobile investment is greater than ever, it was important that I was here today to reinforce the very clear message that Northern Ireland has a strong proposition to potential investors.
“In comparative terms, Northern Ireland has consistently performed better than many other UK regions. Recent investments, such as those secured from NYSE Euronext and Seagate Technologies demonstrate that we can meet the needs of the most advanced sectors.”
The Minister, along with Invest Northern Ireland, held private meetings with a small number of Chief Executives, from organisations identified as prospective investors, to outline in detail Northern Ireland’s investment proposition.
Arlene Foster also welcomed today’s announcement by Bombardier Aerospace, Belfast of the placing of two major supply contracts for the CSeries aircraft programme with UK companies, further highlighting the benefits of the programme to the UK.
The Minister said: “The placing of these two major multi-million dollar contracts for the CSeries aircraft programme, with GKN Aerospace and Cytec Engineered Materials, Wrexham, is an important next step. Already some 400 Bombardier employees are working on the project in Belfast, to design, develop and manufacture the wings for the new CSeries commercial aircraft. Construction of the new factory is on target and will be ready for production later this year. As the project progresses, I look forward to more opportunities opening up for the local supply base.”
