Global Trust to set up Energy Certification Centre of Excellence in Northern Ireland
With support from Invest Northern Ireland, Dundalk-based accreditation specialist Global Trust is to set up an Energy Certification Centre of Excellence for Energy Validation in Northern Ireland from which to target international markets.
Global Trust has delivered sustainability certification projects in over fifteen countries, including Iceland, the US, Canada and the Republic of Ireland.
The company is now investing £175,500 to set up the Northern Ireland centre from which to target the global renewables and low carbon sectors. Global Trust anticipates almost £2M of sales revenue per year coming into the Northern Ireland economy within three years.
Announcing the investment, Tracy Meharg, Invest NI’s Managing Director of Innovation and Capability Development, said: “Renewable energy has huge potential to contribute significantly to Northern Ireland’s future economic growth and is a strategic priority for Invest NI.
“Over the last 18 months, during which we have been proactive in the sector, we’ve received over 40 enquiries from foreign investors keen to take advantage of the benefits of setting up a renewables project in Northern Ireland. Potential investors are attracted by our long tradition of engineering skills, the supply chain opportunities, our physical infrastructure and geographic position.
“This investment by Global Trust will expand Northern Ireland’s renewables operating base and introduce specialist skills, further enhancing our capability in this sector.”
The Energy Certification Centre of Excellence will employ 10 specialists locally who will carry out key international marketing activities to promote its energy certification business to a global market, with further worldwide Global Associates reporting back to Belfast.
Peter Marshall, CEO of Global Trust Certification, said: “With operations and supply chain certifications in over 15 countries worldwide, there was international competition for this new accreditation centre of excellence. We looked at a number of locations to base the Energy Certification Centre and selected Northern Ireland due to the calibre of staff available to us and the strategic location which will enable us to capitalise on both European and US opportunities.
“Global Trust has a strong track record specialising in Accreditation Certification Services on an international basis to the marine, agri-food, environment and consumer goods and services. Our team of highly skilled consultants will provide businesses with expert independent Energy Certification services that are designed to reduce confusion and risk, making businesses more competitive.
“Renewable energy and low carbon certification has huge potential and is a natural extension of our existing product range. We are keen to expand into these rapidly growing market sectors and the support from Invest NI will allow us to act quickly to set up the new Centre of Excellence which has the potential to become a global leader within a short space of time and our new Northern Ireland base will be the foundation of this global presence.”
