Invest NI Chairman Leads Trade Mission to Australia
Invest NI Chairman, Mark Ennis, is leading a trade mission of 15 companies to Australia, visiting both Sydney and Melbourne.
The trade mission, the first in 10 years, includes companies from a number of different sectors including ICT, Engineering, Energy and Security.
Speaking from the opening breakfast briefing with participants, Mark Ennis said: “Australia has enjoyed good growth over the past 20 years supported by strong growth in commodities in this resource rich country. Recently growth rates have fallen to those similar to Northern Ireland as the economy adjusts to falling demand from China.
“It still offers good trade opportunities which are often discounted by exporters due to its long distance from Europe and America. However, this is compensated by Australia having a common language and more importantly very similar business values and rules to the business environment in Northern Ireland which does offer competitive advantage.
“There are numerous flourishing sectors in Australia including but not limited to: foodstuffs, winemaking, retail, consumer goods, telecoms, ICT, infrastructure, renewable energy and life sciences. These sectors offer real opportunities for Northern Ireland companies to export products and services.”
As part of the Trade Mission, companies will be meeting with potential distributors and local business partners. In addition, Mark Ennis will be meeting with a number of Australian government departments and agencies and other local Australian stakeholders to explore ways to help strengthen trade and investment relationships with Northern Ireland. He will also be meeting with a number of Northern Irish companies who have established successful operations in Australia in recent years.
