Invest NI helps waste treatment company enter new waters

Invest Northern Ireland have recently invested £77,000 in a Newry based firm, FM Environmental, to help develop new products and services and facilitate entry into new European markets.

The company has successfully exported to parts of Europe, South East Asia, South Africa, Australia, the Middle East and the USA. The recent establishment of its office in Holland will consolidate its presence in central Europe, generating additional sales of £1.5m, thanks to the help of Invest NI.

FM Environmental specialises in the design, manufacture, installation and servicing of equipment for the wastewater treatment industry, exporting to markets worldwide. With offices in Limerick and Malta, the firm has been helped by Invest NI to establish a European base in the Netherlands. The company’s flagship product is the ‘Grease Guardian’, which removes grease from commercial kitchen water.

Kevin Fitzpatrick, Managing Director, says: “Over the past few years, Invest NI has contributed to the development of Management Information Systems within the company, leading to more efficiency in design and manufacturing processes, the development of new products, more specific performance monitoring, improved human resource procedures and high quality training to develop management skills. Our staff quota currently sits at 48, and this figure will rise to almost 60 over the next two years.”

Brian Dolaghan, Invest NI’s Director of Engineering and Business Services, said: “FM Environmental is an innovative company which has grown organically since its inception 30 years ago, continuously exploring new export markets and developing new products. As part of the company’s long-term strategy it has achieved direct market entry into Europe, and we can look forward to its continued profitable growth as a result of innovation in product and service development.”

FM Environmental has recently been awarded Investors in People status and is a previous Invest NI Exporter of the Year Award winner.
