Invest Northern Ireland Helps Local Company Make Better Connections

AGB Scientific Apparatus Ltd based in Sydenham Business Park, Belfast has made real business improvements with the help of Invest Northern Ireland.

With support from the agency’s broadband advisory service, co-funded by the EU Building Sustainable Prosperity fund, the company has upgraded its internet connection.

One of Ireland’s largest suppliers of laboratory instrumentation, equipment, consumables and expertise AGB Scientific Apparatus Ltd represents some of the world’s major equipment manufacturers.

Previously the company was using a 64K leased broadband line that was proving too slow to meet its growing business needs. With support and guidance from an Invest NI Broadband advisor the company soon changed to a better system.

“With help from Invest NI we upgraded our internet connection to a Bytel Symmetrical Wireless 512k SDSL link.  This had many immediate benefits for us including faster internet access and improved communication with both our suppliers and extensive client base,” said Frank Campbell, Managing Director of AGB Scientific Apparatus Ltd.

“Co-operating with Invest NI was easy. We had an idea what we wanted and knew that our existing suppliers couldn’t help us when we were introduced to the systems that were available,” Frank continued.

The company is also considering installing Voice over IP or VoIP - a fast growing technology used for transmitting telephone calls over data networks, such as the internet.

Information on VoIP as well as a wide range of other new and emerging IT solutions can be found at Invest NI’s eSolutions centre in Lisburn which provides free and impartial advice to businesses across Northern Ireland.

Commenting on the importance of broadband for business Alan Neville, Director of Knowledge Management with Invest NI said: “It is widely acknowledged that broadband connectivity is having a major influence on enhancing the competitiveness of businesses. By using this technology local firms across Northern Ireland will be able to put themselves on a level playing field with rival companies worldwide.”
